I generally kill skin hotspots by using a very soft PhotoShop paintbrush
at about 25% opacity and 50% fill. I just pick up some skin tone an paint
it in carefully over the glare spot. Sometimes I do a bit of cloning as
well.
That works well. Have you tried the patch tool instead of the clone tool?
I've found if I bring the colour up and need texture, this works with less
fuss than cloning, since Photoshop will match the densities quite well.
