were they actual companies that got done away with or just brands?
Plymouth was an actual company that got shut down in Chrysler's
bankruptcy reorganization. Neon was a Plymouth model line.
I don't want to be a downer, but I don't think Walt's going to be able
to collect anything from Chrysler.
I think it was mentioned it was a 1999 model?
If so, that's a 10+ year old car with 100,000 miles on the clock, and
Walt says it's never been in the shop. I'm guessing he means he never
had to have repair work done on it; that he did have routine maintenance
done.
Still, I'd be willing to bet it's well out of warranty and "never been
in the shop" would include never having it in to have the power steering
hose defect corrected under recall, which the manufacturer's lawyer
could argue makes Walt equally responsible.
Even if he prevailed, he wouldn't collect more than fair market
replacement value, and that's only about $750 - $1500. The lawyer would
charge more than that.
It sucks, but about the best Walt's going to be able to do is claim the
loss on his income taxes.
If it was me, I'd be looking for what $1000 or less could get me on
Craigslist.
