I just noticed a big goof in my first reply:
"When/if I'm ever finally able to buy my
next *HDR*..."
Should be "DSLR". (Note to self: Proofreading is OK. Don't be ashamed
to do it.)
I guess I'm of two minds on the marketing-driven features like HD video
and in-camera HDR. On one hand, I can see where it's a good idea to
have such things on an entry-level DSLR like the K-x, for the sake of
grabbing a share of the market among people who haven't yet established
a Canikon mentality. And to leave those features off the flagship
models does seem like something that would leave people scratching their
heads.
On the other hand, it strikes me that there's a niche to be carved out
among seasoned photographers who want a camera that is just a camera and
claims to be nothing else; a model whose sole purpose is to take amazing
photos without all the gewgaws that, to many, must seem an awful lot
like confetti.
It reminds me a little of the post about the "Which Bikey are You?"
thread as it relates to the tri-athletes. There should be some cameras
that perform the tri-athlete function -- pretty good at different
things, but not the best at any. But, it sure seems to me that there's
room in the market for a camera that blows away the competition at
simply being a camera.
Some companies thrive with that approach in other areas -- say, home
audio, for example. I don't see why the photography industry can't.

Great read, Boris!
Like you, I have zero use for Live View. And, oddly enough, two of the
features that really had me sold me on the K-x (aside from the high ISO
noise profile) are ones that I've used exactly one time each --
in-camera HDR and video mode. When/if I'm ever finally able to buy my
next HDR, I would absolutely love a Pentax that sacrifices the art
filters and video mode in favor of low-light focusing and improved
metering. Not that I have any problem with the K-x's metering ... but
the 77-segments of the K-7 sure sounds like it would lend considerable
peace of mind when taking high contrast shots.
Nice, informative run-down.

Thanks, Walter. It is indeed the general idea of my follow up post
that I am "cooking" in my mind now that most of modern (marketing
inspired?) features sound awfully good, but are used terribly seldom...
