quick question for those who have tried both - to use a p-ttl flash
off camera would you advise using
a) pentax F (male / female hotshoe adaptor plus sync cable)
I've found this the most reliable solution for PTTL. I have had to make
occasional repairs to the Pentax hotshoe adapters where the cable
connectors came loose inside. So far no broken wires, just retaining
nuts came loose.
I like the modularity of the Pentax system because I can use the same
camera adapter with short cables on a flash bracket and long cables for
lights on stands.
b) 3rd party cheapo cable solution
I've had one of these on another flash bracket (mounts the flash about 1
foot above the camera) for about 6 months now and haven't had any
problems with it so far.
c) wireless, if so, which one?
I haven't been impressed with the built-in wireless between my Pentax
DSLRs and AF-540FGZ or AF-360FGZ. I do use a wireless trigger for
studio/location work, but not PTTL.
I'm really pleased with the Paul C. Buff CyberSync - CST (transmitter)
and CSRB+ (battery powered receiver). I think they give really good
value for the money.

I wouldn't go the Pocket Wizard route unless I needed to buy the ones
where you get your own exclusive dedicated frequencies.
I tried the cheap Chinese triggers like you get from eBay, and although
they work pretty well, they are *not* rugged. They suffer excessive wear
and tear in normal use. I've literally had some of them fall apart just
from being connected during a shoot.
Save yourself a few bucks by jumping straight to the better quality of
the Paul C. Buff or Pocket Wizard.
thanks
Ecke
