Pixelmator is excellent, I recommend it. If you're running an Apple PowerPC system and Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need version 1.5.1 as that is the final PowerPC compatible version. Otherwise, the current version (Apple Intel only) is much better.
You can subscribe to a free video podcast of tutorials for Pixelmator using iTunes. Very helpful. If I didn't already have Photoshop CS4 and wasn't so heavily invested in Photoshop scripting, I'd buy and use Pixelmator without any issues.
