Best get a lens cap, IIRC the K1000 meter works just like the Spotmatic
F, it turns on when you remove the lens cap, leaving the lens cap off
while not using it drains the battery relatively quickly.

Well, I've just returned with my new K1000 and the attached
M-50/2, and all looks to be in order. The camera itself is in fine
shape, though you can tell it's been sitting for a while -- some
dustiness in the leather. I'm sure it could stand a good overall
cleaning, though I doubt the lens has been off the thing in quite some
time. The shutter speed control feels crisp and snappy, the winder
moves very smoothly, film advance feels good.
The lens didn't have either front or rear caps (and, consequently, the
battery's dead), but appears to be in good shape -- tiny nicks around
the very end of the lens casing, but no other apparent signs of wear.
The glass appears immaculate and there's no sign of oil on the
aperture blades. Unfortunately, it's dark and cold outside, so I
can't really test it under preferred lighting conditions. But, what
shots I have taken, even at maximum aperture, appear tack-sharp. I do
think I'm going to like this lens a lot!
And, if it is indeed good enough for St. Ansel, I suppose I could
learn to live with it. :-)

Wasn't it St. Ansel's camera of choice when he wasn't shooting big

I've been shooting the past two years almost exclusively with the
M-50/2, if that's what you're getting you won't be disappointed.
As for the camera, maybe it's not the "greatest" but its all anyone
ever needs to make a photo. And it will teach you more about
photography than any auto mode will.

As of approximately 6:00 PM central time this evening, I'll be
the proud

(though,
hoping for a pleasant surprise on the lens). Having spoken to the
owner,
it's been very lightly used, is fully functioning, and in need of a
battery.
I'd been afraid I was going to miss out on it, but as luck would

little bit of computer tech work suddenly presented itself which
allowed me
to go ahead bite on it.
I know it's not the greatest camera and/or lens on the planet, but I'm
pretty excited about finally being able to lay hands on a 50mm
prime without
having to order the thing over the 'net. I have a feeling I'm
going to get
a LOT of use out of this lens on my K-x (and my recent discovery of
the
advantages of raw shooting -- [still sobbing over the shots lost to
the jpg

before all
is said and done.
Anyway ... here's asking for crossed fingers toward the hope for a
f/1.2 --
but, at $40 US, I'll take it whatever it is.
