There are now so many different sensor sizes, that a description in millimeters would be most apt and informative. I expect we'll eventually come around to that, after the supply of silly names has been exhausted. With film, there was a reason to keep the range of sizes to a manageable level, and those sizes were largely dictated by the available supply of film.
