I have a colleague in my dept., an organic chemist, who went to MIT in the late 80's. At that time their main computer system was the Unix-based Athena system, which was pretty hot stuff back then. When I asked her about it early one she told me she never used it. I was stunned. She told me "no one ever took the time to explain any of it to me, even in my computer course".
