Did everyone forget that Apple's OS X *IS* unix (BSD)? You can use vi from the terminal to create your web sites, if you are the sort of person who enjoys driving screws into wood with a rock.
Regarding the Oatmeal cartoon about Apple above, I am reminded of the Dr. Seuss story about the Star-bellied Sneetches, which probably teaches you everything you need to know about economics and commerce at a very early age: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sneetches_and_Other_Stories Dissatisfaction and planned obsolescence are built into everything these days. But, having a lot of experience with both Windows and Mac I can say that Macs have a much longer practical lifespan and far fewer support issues than their PC counterparts. There are (many) good reasons that people swear BY Macs and swear AT PCs and its not just because they are fanboys.
