I think it is an interesting move for this reason: (Warning... the following contains possibly politically correct gross over-generalizations)
In the past, the "colors" thing has been aimed at the "fun-loving"/fashion conscious/perhaps-predominantly-young/perhaps-predominantly-female demographic. By being the first to put a color other than black on a $10,000 camera you are probably reaching a slightly different upscale professional/prosumer market. The fact that they are doing it to "commemorate" being named Camera of the Year is smart on a couple of levels. It gives you an "excuse" for a little frivolity and making it a limited time issue (which enhanses it's desirability even more) and it also gets free advertising by being an event, which in turn gets more "run" out of the fact that you were named someone's Camera of the Year (maximizing it's benefits to growing your brand's/product's awareness in the eyes of the public. I would soooo love to be able to plunk down the cash for one and the new 25mm lens. That combo would give you the ability to create some digital images that are being made by very few. Should anyone want to contribute something to my 645D fund, I'll be happy to send you my paypal address. : ) Darren Addy Kearney, Nebraska -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
