I used an ISP for about a year in the early 90's and then switched.  A year 
later, my bother signed up with them and happened to pick the same ID 
("cassino").  He suddenly started receiving year and a half to two year old 
emails that had originally been addressed to me.  After that, I decided not 
to send credit card info via email.  Why not just make a phone call and 
give it to them verbally?

But - what you did is probably safer than dealing with the shops that still 
take and impress of the card and have carbons, or giving your card to a 
wait person who walks off with it for a while...
