I don't believe I've ever encountered this problem with my K-5, which operates only on Pentax batteries -- two at a time, because I always use the grip, and I charge the batteries more often than needed. I did experience occasional shutdowns with my K20D, in which I used a variety of third party batteries. As with your experience, the K20D shutdowns were resolved by turning the camera off and back on. One or two of my third party batteries eventually failed in full.
