That is stunning!  Did you get any other shots of the flight?
There's a place north of Milwaukee called Horicon Marsh that's
on the flyway for the Canada Geese.  It gets a similar look when
the birds go up, but they stay away from the edges of the preserve.
Hunters in Wisconsin can get a tag which lets them take a goose.
(knarF would be happy.)
