I guess "Ouch!" is subjective. Have you priced a new, plain LX lately (there are still a few around <g>). Last year, just before officially going out of production, they cost over $1300 in Japan, and I think that may have been without a finder. I don't think many people realize what a bargain the MZ-S is ... The last denizens of high-quality manual-focus cameras were all almost twice the price of an MZ-S, or more. I don't have figures for the Contax, but the Leicas are $2000 or so, maybe more for the R8, Olympus prices were in the $1400 - $1600 range. Consider the MZ-S a bargain, if that's the kind of camera you like.
