FWIW, if I was going to replace my Rega turntable that I bought circa 1975 (and which still works), I'd probably buy the Rega RP1 ...
http://www.rega.co.uk/html/RP1.htm Seems to be in the $400 Cdn price range, brand new, with an Ortofon OM5e MM cartridge. *Fully* manual. To change speeds (33/45) you lift the platter and move the belt to a different size pulley. Automatic is for P&S users. The Regas are low-tech, as few moving parts as possible, which appeals greatly to me. I can still buy a new rubber belt for my original glass-platter Planar, and they will sell me a new 24VDC motor to replace the original if I want something with even better specs. So here's a product that came out in 1973, still being supported. Nice. On Thu, Jan 5, 2012 at 6:59 PM, Tom C <[email protected]> wrote: > > Sort of a sad story, but not really.
