I hope that Pentax/Ricoh has an updated 645D with higher
sensor resolution waiting in the wings. 30mp is getting might close to
the 40mp sensor in low end MF DSLRs.
I think potential buyers in the medium format digital market are
generally far too experienced and knowledgeable to count pixels and
think this is a substitute for MF digital - sensor size matters. (Buty
I wouldn't be surprised if an upgrade to the 645D came before long.)

Be that as it may, but the 44mmx33mm sensor is only 1.6 times the area of the 36mmx24mm sensor.with 1.3 times the pixels. Assuming optimize pixel sizes and spacing for both brings us down to pretty much a pixel count comparison.

The D800 can produce a 25 1/2 in x 16 1/3 in print at 300dpi, the 645D can produce a 24 1/4 in x 18 1/8 in print at 300 dpi.

There seems to be a rough parity here.

Don't lose heart! They might want to cut it out, and they'll want to avoid a
lengthily search.
