Despite our familiarity with the brand, Pentax has at best, 2% market
share in the DSLR arena. You can do the the arithmetic and figure how
many Pentax's you'll see vs. other brands.

They're being eclipsed in every category of camera at the moment. No
FF, no higher MP APS-C to compete with C/N, no EVIL or ILC to be taken
seriously, no high end larger sensor compact. If/when they do, guess
what, a year or two's worth of potential customer has already
purchased another brand, and are no longer in the market.

You can't find their DSLR's here in the USA at the major retail chains
where many first time buyers are likely to shop, Best Buy, Wal-Mart,
Costco, Sams (at least not that I've been able to observe). Of course
they're available online or at brick & mortar camera stores, but not
where masses of people see them and think 'Wow, I'd like to have one
of those' when they walk by.
