On 21/11/12, John Francis, discombobulated, unleashed: >Hah! You've got Silverstone within driving distance, and several >other circuits (including possibly the best track in use today, Spa, >as close as the four hours by air it takes me to get to Austin).
Good point! Haven't been up to Silverstone for some time, no longer in our 'news patch' since 2006, although before that I was up there a lot. >From 1990 to 2000 filmed a lot up there but never on F1 weekend as that was locked down by the BBC. Filmed plenty of press events there. Met and filmed Barichello, Monster Montoya, Ralph Schumaker, Damon Hill, and one or two others whose names I forget. Derek Warwick once took me round a wet Silverstone in a sports car (can't remember what it was, but it was a squeeze to get me and the camera in, and being wet we only got up to about 160 on the straights! I've never been to a F1 race in the flesh, but filmed test days from the pits - noise is an understatement! >Mind you, COTA is the best of the modern tracks by a long way, IMO. >And we had perfect weather, and a great race with actual racing on >track, and only a couple of miner mechanical incidents. Watched the race on Sky. Looks a super circuit and everyone seemed to love it. The racing was excellent. > >Pictures will follow at some point, but at the moment I'm moving to >a new computer (so I can run LR4), and taking this as an opportunity >to review the way I organise my images. Given my slight tendency to >procrastinate I have no idea when I'll be set up to process the shots. John Francis procrastinates?? Never!! ;-) >P.S. You can be envious should I manage to persuade one of our larger >customers, Singapore Air, that they want to treat me to a trip to the >Singapore GP. It's not really likely, but it's just remotely possible.
