But that's not the point at all in this case or many others. Yeah I think Pentax AF can be improved, but shooting landscapes that's never been a big complaint of mine. Using it on a Pentax DSLR I'd be missing 8MP of information. This was not an AF lens to begin with and I doubt I've used it in a decade. However on a 24MP body it becomes a nice general purpose focuser of light rays, even with an adapter that equals the depth of the lens. It's still very compact. Shooting landscapes and such, or night landscapes, chances are there's no focusing involved. Set to infinity and shoot. So instead of just letting the lens collect dust I can use it. Granted I have an E-mount 50/1.8, but there's something kind of cool about using the older lens. You gotta admit that setting aperture on the lens is more fun than setting it on the body.
