Steve - since 2001, you can't get as close to the Very Large Array as
previously.. but a drive up route 60 toward Az is pretty neat anyway..
although it might be quite snowy...

John - after Bosque .. suggested route is to head south before going
east - and pass through Marfa, Texas. Maybe check out Big Bend NP -
perfect time of year for it.

BTy You can take a side road almost all the way to Las Cruces exiting
the Bosque for more birding ops.. the birds don't know where the
sanctuary ends :-)

I'm So jealous!

I'm heading west from Bosque. I've been working on the idea for this trip for a while.

I know US-60 passes through the Very Large Array. Old Hwy 60 REALLY passes right through it, but I don't know if that's accessible now. Google Street View doesn't show any gates or keep out signs ... or more accurately, I couldn't find gates or keep out signs in Street View.

I'd like to see the Grand Canyon again, and maybe I'll to go a little farther west. I'm sort of thinking I-40 outbound, I-10/I-20 inbound.

I have some friends out west I want to visit with on this trip. One in Mesa,AZ and one on the way home down near San Antonio, TX.

Other than that it's just a chance to see what's over yonder ways.
