Igor, as you very likely know, Sigma introduced recently 18-35/1.8 zoom for cropped sensors. If I understand correctly, this lens will be available in K-mount too. From what I could read about it on the net (admittedly, not ideal source) I gather that this lens is extraordinary.

Granted, it does not have weather sealing, Pentax coatings and is rather large and heavy, beside these points, it is exceptionally good. And from my own experience with modern Sigma lenses, the lack of coating is not that big a deal. Personally, I would say it is revolutionary.

Pentax has always been foremost the optical company. So, it would seem to me that either Pentax and other bigger manufacturers will shrug this Sigma lens off, or they will compete. I much rather they competed.

Thus is my previous saying...

You are hoping for a faster-than-f/2.8 zoom.
I haven't seen such in K-mount, and I am not aware of any in other
mounts (but that might be my ignorance).

So, why do you think Pentax would produce such a fast zoom?
I don't think so. I even doubt it'd be 2.8, as otherwise it would've
been a DA* or a limited.
