Yes, I am sure the one I had was crap. The concept is good and with sensor technology what it is these days it should have been a winner. But it was very bad! I shot hundreds of pics with it and only one was somewhat OK. The electronic vf was So BAD. Totally a toy. The rear screen was ok, but then you look at just about anything else out there and it was much better. Just not worth the money. I was just at Camera camera and they have EPL-2's and EP-3's for around 200 and less. These are either new or factory refurbs with full warranty. Some have kit lenses as well. I am sure there are a lot of good choices out there. Others have made excellent recommendations as well. I would hate to see you get stuck with the E-5 and not be happy with it, which I am sure would happen.
