Arca Swiss type clamps and plates for certain. I've had several other systems in the past and none work as well.
The screw type clamps are more universal than the lever types overall and can accommodate minor variations in plate design. I've owned and used Kirk, FOBA, Acratech, and Markins heads. My current ones are a Markins Q3 EmiliƩ and an Acratech Ultimate Ball Head. Both are excellent quality and sized right for my largest/heaviest equipment. I have plates from ReallyRightStuff, Kirk, Acratech, Wimberly, and FOBA. All are beautifully finished and work perfectly with both heads/clamps.
