I'm not saying that Ricoh is doing badly by finally making proper
investment (in all terms, not just money) into Pentax. Rather, I
sincerely believe that all that rumor mill is not doing company any
good. Each time there is a new release from Pentax, the rumor mill
starts anew. This creates illogical expectations, starts new flame wars
on internet forums and ultimately leads to people being disappointed.
Pessimistic or not, I don't see any good in these things.
Internet forums need to be taken for what they are worth. Over on the
Fuji forum at DPReview, a guy is wailing that Fuji isn't making a
commitment to the APS-C aensor size, and therefore he doesn't think Fuji
is a good purchase, just in case they dump APS-C in favour of 35mm.
Of course Fuji has never said anything one way or the other about 35mm.
Companies cannot do anything about the illogic of people, especially it
seems when they invest the degree of fanaticism into a camera brand that
manifests as overarching fanboyism.
Companies can't be responsible for people being disappointed over new
products, they can't be responsible for the illogical expectations of
fanatics, all they can do is put products on the market for sale, and
try to hit a market point that will buy it.
If Pentax, or any company, was to place the importance you are implying
they should on the rumour mills of internet fanboys, they would pretty
much have to stop putting new products on the market entirely, since
every new release would be causing a new group of whack jobs to slit
their wrists.
It seems they really can't win. They put nothing on the market, and they
go out of business, they put new products on the market and that isn't a
good thing either.
Respectfully Boris, and I mean this with all the love in my heart that I
can feel for a fellow human being, you need to give your head a shake.
