I agree with Bruce! I'll add a couple of observations, though:

1. A fresh battery works wonders. You'll need a teensy Philips
screwdriver to get the thing apart, but then it's easy.

2. I suspect that other sources of infrared light might interfere; it
seems to be becoming more reliable with compact fluorescents replacing
incandescent bulbs.
