Hi Eric, both Pentax and Sigma have a great 17-70 mm lens. The Sigma even starts at f2.8. And if you need a longer reach on a modest wide angle lens, than this is the one for you. Pre-owened prices are similar to the16-45 too.
Just an aside. I am a travel + street photographer, and find the Sigma 10-20 the most versatile, as is the Tamron 17-50/2.8 one of the sharpest lens for the price. Good luck.
