True, I haven't used your cameras. :-)

I was speaking from experience with a ZX-5n, ZX-M, Super Programs, P30t
and P3n (I've haven't had a battery failure on my ME Super or 2 ME's).
The ZX's and Super Programs have always let me shoot 1-2 rolls after
first indication of battery low. But this may be more of a difference
in shooting style. I usually shoot somewhat deliberately, perhaps
giving the battery time to "recover" between shots. This doesn't sound
like what you were doing with the children's portrait place.

If I were doing a lot of "heavy" shooting, I would try to establish a
mean time between failure for a battery set and change at 80% of that.
