I think there was misattribution along the lone somewhere..

The woman who owened the photo originally, I have to say, could easily have been taken for more money  than she should ahve - but also
my still living friend may be misremembering the price.

That's interesting. It looks to me as though the Kennan and Leeson photos are
separate pictures of the same scene, taken at the same time with the
photographers next to each other, for example on the same expedition/photo
tour. Look at the tuft of grass in each one in relation to the bears - it shows
slightly different angles. Or it could be that the site I linked to had wrongly
attributed the photo.

I've searched & searched for Kenan Ward prints & don't see that image among those he has
available. Since the exhibition Bob's image appeared in was sponsored by the Sierra Club, I
searched for "Sierra Club Prints".

I found this one at "fineartamerica":

https://fineartamerica.com/featured/polar-bear-family-thomas-and-pat-leeson.html

But, it's not Kenan Ward, it's Thomas and Pat Leeson; uploaded June 15, 2014

Here's the image at Tom & Pat Leeson's website (it's in their stock image
portfolio):

I think it's a better match for the image Ann has, because it's not flipped and because it
has the little tufts of grass I can see in the image Ann showed. Plus there are three images
in a row & this "pose" is the middle of the three. Looks like it might have
been taken as early as 2000.

I think $400 - $500 for this print (as framed) is more likely than $4,000 unless
Ann's friend bought it from a charity & most of the sale price went as a
donation.

My friend who ended up with it is my age and starting to look to shedding
possesions that she was left and doesn't really care about.. she doesn't
like the photo... long complcated story I dont' need to get into, but when she
was discussing the shedding process she mentioned it.. "some kind of bears, I
think" she had been told he was a famous photographer..

I googled 'art wolfe polar bears' and scrolled through the images that came
back. I have a good memory for images, so when I saw that one, which appeared
because the photographer was in a joint show with Art Wolfe, it corresponded
in my head with the fragment that ann posted, so I compared them side by
side.

It looks like a reversed print of this one, by someone called Kennan Ward:

Everything about this says Art Wolfe but I haven't found the exact frame
on line. A friend of mine inherited this and probably would like to sell
it. I happened to be at a Christmas party at the home of the now deceased
original owner in 2006.. cropped down to the photo hanging on wall in her
living room.

She had purchased the work for $4,000 framed. I was told I knwo she had
it for years before 2006. At the moment the photo is stashed in her
benefactor's home all wrapped up.

Do you know this photo? Maybe I should just send the file to Wolfe :-)
