Bob- The weirdest thing is that I had exactly that problem- two rolls had overlapping pictures on the negatives, both rolls only exhibited this at the very end of the roll, one had torn film sprocket holes (I think I was a little forceful in winding when I was trying to get an action sequence and the drive kept hanging up).
I have since shot some rolls after those and have not had any problems w/ overlapping shots. Is there anything other than the winder crank shaft that I can lubricate/clean in the camera to make sure everything is moving smoothly? Winding mechanism in the camera is not broken- it does not release the shutter unless the frame is fully wound and the winding action is smooth. Camera is otherwise flawless, seen maybe 40 rolls over its lifetime, bought new in 1985. They are pretty durable. Make sure you have good batteries in them. They will stop before they pull the film out of the cassette and off of the spool, so friction is a delicate issue. You need to clean the contact pins on the drive and spots on the Super Program bottom. Both can get oxidized and make poor contact. I've done this to revive units I bought on ebay. As to your original problem of only winding 3/4 of a frame, did you see overlapping pictures on the negatives? If so, this problem isn't in the motor drive, it is in the camera itself. The motor drive will not override the interlock between shutter and film winding mechanism. You must be fully wound to release the shutter, or you have a broken camera. Regards, Bob S. If I can, I'm going to see what can be done about fixing the problem- is there a way to get this thing fixed permanently? I'm afraid that the replacement from KEH will exhibit the same problem, just a matter of time. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
