You do run into the issue of shutter speed - without a leaf shutter
lens, you are limited to 1/60 or slower.  Beyond that, meter and set
the camera for proper exposure.  Then set the flash to A mode
(automatic - no ttl) and then set the f Stop (press the select button
in center of dial, then spin the dial) to be x number of stops higher
or lower than the camera.  When you fire, the sensor in the flash will
read the light and quench when appropriate.  If you use TTL you will
not be able to control the flash power.  The advantage to the leaf
shutter lens is that you can use most any shutter speed.  The
technique is still the same.
