I used to own the Nikon SB-25 which was a better designed flash than the 
AF500FTZ overall. The shoe of SB-25 was held by 4 screws, so if the shoe was 
broken, the plastic shoe could be replaced in minutes. I don't remember 
about the AF500FTZ as I checked it out once only. However, the reason I did 
not buy the AF500FTZ was that the shoe looked rather "thin" to me. If you 
compare the shoe sizes of Pentax and Nikon, you would notice that the Pentax 
one is smaller and thinner. I think this is a design flaw that was inherited 
from the past.
