Ian,
Thanks for the update and the previous information. I just have need to
enter descriptive free text within the symbol and have it stay where it was
intended to stay during rotation of the symbol. It was done previously using
non-electrical zero length pins for their text name, but DXP complains about
this.
At this time I am just evaluating DXP and testing some of it's
requirements that may collide with our file management system. I am not ready
to have my email swamped with the DXP list at this time.
Besides which I may get myself in trouble for airing my obvious
concerns about DXP's evolution away from the core tools and handcuffing 'us'
into supporting the development of new tools we don't want nor need and would
never use.(They didn't even attend the PCB Design Conference in favour of
selling their "new" tools further up the road in SF). So right now our
company's future path is being decided with or without Altium's input and
participation. 10+ seats, between two offices, on the line for Altium or
whomever can best meet our needs.
Sincerely,
Brad Velander

Subject: RE: [PEDA] Query about DXP feature/fix.
I just happened to find out a little more on this issue on the one of the
DXP lists.
There is actually an option
Preferences-Graphical Editing "Display Strings as Rotated"
which, I gather, may change something I wrote about the text always being
right readable. I haven't done any experimentation with it. I am pleased
that text embedded in sch symbols moves pretty much correctly. I have not
been that fussed that the rotation and mirroring is not preserved (in fact
I think it is good that the text tries to stay easy to read). Maybe others
will have some use for this option though.
This option may be new in P2004 SP2.
(To harp on something I have said before, you would get much more
definitive answers (and quicker), though, on the DXP forum. My recent
knowledge of this option came from a long time user but also two Altium
employees. I generally only read PEDA in batches these days so don't
necessarily respond all that quickly, maybe others are the same.)
Ian
