Jon - please leave me out of this 'discussion' of nominalism and realism.
The descriptions being put forth recently on this list are, in my view, so
substantially distorted and invalid - that I prefer to stay out of it. I
won't even comment on the basic errors of definition between the two terms
much less the misuse of the Peircean categories.
And I thought the discussion was between nominalism and realism, not
nominalism and essentialism. Realism and essentialism are not, to my
understanding, exact synonyms of each other.
