I think I posted about firing McChrystal a year ago, when he was too busy to
meet the president wherever Obama was, and Obama had to go to meet McChrystal.
Truman gained a lot by firing MacArthur. Obama ensures no second term if he
does not fire McChrystal. And in that case, the military runs the US from then
on.
And you're correct, Michael, that McChrystal wins either way.
MacArthur became an icon of the right but finally did fade away.
