I don't know. In any event, I hope that others besides him read it and
might learn from or add to what I said. I try not to aim my missives
at just one person.
By the way, it was incorrect to refer to the Soviet occupation of
Afghanistan as the "previous war" there, since there was a war after
they pulled out, between various warlords (including some now behind
Karzai) and eventually the Taliban. As I understand it, Kabul wasn't
leveled until after the Soviets left.
