Fascinating! It's a pity that Stigler's ideas (explicit measures of well
being) weren't developed into a new, "scientific" economics. IMHO, now that
we are at "peak pie" (e.g., <http://energybulletin.net/node/53766>), with
the pie shrinking for many decades, new ways will be developed to ration
necessities.
