LMU isn't a think-tank. It's a university, with a wide variety of opinions:
there's no Party Line, unlike (say) at the Cato Institute, with its
allegiance to the money-libertarian creeed. Unlike in think-tanks, we have
to teach -- or else the place does not survive. (LMU has a religious
affiliation but it's not forced on the faculty unlike, I've heard, places
like Pepperdine.) It's not like the Cato Institute or places like that,
which can live off the whims of some crazy Texas oil billionaire. Unlike in
think-tanks, our research doesn't count if it's not peer reviewed.
Think-tanks are notorious for their shoddy research, largely because of a
lack of peer review. Instead of peer review, they invest in public
relations in order to broadcast the Party Line to the world.

I'd say that the same applies to less-prestigious places like Harvard,
Yale, and Chico State.
