Julio's suggestion is very interesting.  In my naivete, I started pen-l
with the hope that some sort of collective collaboration  might result.  I
have made contact with some wonderful people, but no collective action.
 Instead, there is an excess of individualism, in which otherwise good
people dissipate too much energy sniping at each other.
