Unfortunately, list culture tends to foster atomistic, self-aggrandising behaviour which is entirely contrary tothe original hopes. Maybe it is possible to try to counter this by a few baby steps--- eg., by attempting to identify a few subjects that might be useful to pursue in a cooperative and collective manner and then seeing if there are subgroups within the list willing to give these a try.
