Ok, what brand and model is your harddrive? With that, I could probably find
out if it's SE or LVD.

Ok. If your cable has a fixed non removable terminator, it's "usually"
active termination. However, if it isn't you're pretty much stuck with it.
If you want to use active termination, you will have to buy a new cable and
buy and active terminator for it. A 5 devices 68pin SE cable with Active
termination costs around US$70 here. Note that I'm talking about good ones,
not some cheap cable from someone's backyard :) As far as I've seen, SE
cables usually don't come with termination on it. You're probably using an
LVD cable. Like I said earlier, LVD comes with active termination unless the
manufacturer cut costs and put passive on it. In this case, the
cable+terminator combo would come to US$100. I'm not sure of the prices in
Malaysia though, check Imbi/Subang Parade/Sunway. I would think Imbi would
have a wider choice since SCSI is basically a luxury back home. Performance
wise, if there's only 1 HDD and the cable is short, passive and active won't
make a difference. If there's heavy traffic (database/HDD seek) then passive
tend to cause more errors, but SCSI is designed to work around the errors
(with lower speeds). I'm thinking you should be pretty safe. Is there away
you could provide me with the model number of the controller chip on your
controller? It should either AIC-xxxx or AHA-xxxx. Thanks.
