I use the Dino-Lite brand usb microscope which comes in a variety of models and I am pretty sure a number of these come in under the $200.00 price point.

I am starting to experiment with one to see if it works for this (and other purposes). That would also give you the option of getting a good photograph. Even a “toy” one could work.
