Anyone here played with booting Linux from USB and had any success?

I'd like to try and get Ubuntu to boot from a 2GB USB but my fairly
vague attempts so far have been unsuccessful.

Note: I have never successfully booted *anything* via USB (not that I've
tried very hard), so I may be having problems more related to BIOS
config than anything else. My last attempt simply gets skipped during
bootup despite telling the BIOS to boot from USB first.

Sorry to be vague but I'd rather start from scratch anyway if someone
can point me at useful instructions or suggest how best to start (or
even suggest a good distro that will install to flash).
