Basically, you want syslinux. You may not realize this yet, but you do. Finnix has a finnix-thumbdrive command that you can use, once you have booted from CD first. In finding howtos, I'm sure that adding syslinux to your existing search words will help. NOTE: finnix-thumbdrive will fully erase the contents of the drive in the process.
