I did realise it, so I was heading in the right direction!

I even used it, but something wasn't right as it didn't work.

Thanks, that's exactly what i think I'm after. If I can find an install
script which should "just work" I can confirm I have everything else
right (BIOS settings etc). After that I can try again with the Ubuntu
howto's I've found knowing that at least the principle should work.

Thanks for the warning (especially in case others are reading this) but
I have a spare 2GB USB stick to play with, so no problem there.
