One of the (if not the biggest) challenges for developers as we move to web
frontends, is passing data and state (as in row/item status for dw) back and
forth between client and app server. Sybase has handled this fabulously
with the "Datawindow for Java". It has nearly all the functionality we are
familiar with in PB. The problem is that many companies do not want to use
applets these days. Sybase has also developed the HTML Datawindow. This
works great for retrieval and presentation, but lacks on the update side,
particularly if you are doing validation on the app server. Every example I
can find uses the HTML generator component that ships with Jaguar. This is
fine if you have no business logic or validation to do on the server. What
I'm looking for is a way to get data and state from the web dw. I
understand that I may have to re-retrieve the data to get original values,
or even store it in a Jaguar shared object. Is there anyone out there that
has a good example of a HTML datawindow with both retrieve and update going
through a Jaguar component?
Thanks,
Kevin
btw - I have posted on the newsgroups with no success :(
