I think is a valid concern, since a lot of clients presumably will be running on other architectures. Maybe a twofold solution ? 1. a very simple make file that doesn't care about dependencies and such. 2. ant as an alternative for developers and users of other platforms. And I think more and more projects are migrating towards using Ant.
