The one in the listing is a Pathe reproducer for playing Pathe vertical cut discs on a Pathe machine. It will not work for Edison Diamond Discs nor regular lateral cut 78s. What you want doesn't necessarily have a brand name, as many companies made them, but I have heard them called 'lateral attachments', because they are usually used on Edison Diamond Disc machines to play Victor or other standard lateral cut 78s. There was another adapter that could be used on Voctor machines called the hughes stylus, which fits into the reproducer like a needle and plays Diamond Discs. Since the diaphragm remains vertical, though, I can't imagine it sounds very good. There is also another fitting that goes onto the Victor U-tube and has a horizontally mounted diaphragm for playing lateral or Diamond Discs on Victor machines. I can't remember it's name just now. Can anyone tell me the official 'name' of the adapter that lets you play Path? records on an Edison Diamond Disc machine? I can't find any pictures of one to compare to this eBay listing, and the seller doesn't know anything about it: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pathe-Victrola-Phonograph-Reproducer-for-Edison-Records_ W0QQitemZ6572820946QQcategoryZ1442QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (item 6572820946) Again, many thanks in advance! I am guessing more like $500-600. The red cariage arm will need to be traded for a black carriage arm. I also note there are no pics of the front, leading me to believe it may have problems. The seller is probably not knowledgeable as he calls the cylinders 'discs', and who is Ruby Goldberg? Rube Goldberg's clumsy sister? > The machine itself is a 2 minute machine, not 2 and 4. I suspect the horn crane is a repro, as it looks exactly like one I bought that turned out to be repro.. The seller would not take it back, althought he figured it was a repro. He said it was up to me to ask. What a jerk. Anyhow, good luck on your search, it will be difficult to find a 2/4 machine for $300 or less but you never know, you might hit it lucky at some garage sale. THere was a model D Standard at a swap meet here in CA for $375, but the mandrel was frozen. Took quite a bit of repair, but it was worth it. > John > > > Robert Wright wrote: > You all know I've been in the market for a functioning cylinder phono for > some time now...
