As a member since 1999, I have no idea why ebay does anything, except to make money.
At one point they DID have an advisory panel consisting of volume sellers (years ago). Don't know what happened to it. I can ask Louis, the moderator of the glassaholics group, who used to be on it. When I was a newbie, very naive, I left a neg FB for a bad transaction (I was the buyer). The seller in turn, gave me a retaliatiory neg FB, i.e., seller left FB for buyer (me). That d..n neg FB still sits there as the only neg FB I ever received, even though the seller is long gone...and even though I have tried many times to have it removed. EBAY STINKS. I haven't tried to sell anything there in almost 2 years...was waiting to see what this new guy would do. HAH! I suspect that Ebay is trying to be like Amazon, where "reviews" of a product are left by buyers. You can also leave star feeback for some sellers there, as a way to rate service. It is a one-way street. They don't push for the FB there though. Occasionally a seller will email asking for one. I always use Amazon's reviews (along with epinions) as a way to understand the pros and cons of what I am looking to buy. HOWEVER, I cannot sell my stuff (antique glass) there, since Amazon's only used stuff is books (as far as I know). I wish Amazon would expand to include antiques!! With this current announcement it's obvioius that Ebay doesn't have a clue. And it's just too late for Ebay to change, since every type of con artist from every corner of the globe has tried every imaginable scheme or rip-off there...and then some. Ebay ain't never gonna be Amazon! I have to start putting some time onto my TIAS.COM site. Tias is $35/mo + 10% of any sale OVER that amount, i.e, any sales over $350 get charged 10% commision. If you sell up to $350 worth of stuff, you pay only $35/mo. Ex., if you sold $500, you'd pay $35 + 10% of $150 (500-350). The stuff can sit there forever if you want, with a ton of photos. I even keep my sold items active with one photo. No listing fee. No any other additional fees. I've sold a few things there recently, even though I haven't updated inventory in over a year! The shopes come up on search engines with no problem. Oh, and although they wanted $500 for initial setup of a shop (at the time I did it), the alternative was to do it yourself for free...which I decided to try. It took me 5 days, with some support from them, but I did it myself for free. LOL There are thousands of shops on tias. And their policy is: if they get a complaint from a buyer, they warn you. If they get too many complaints, (not sure how many) they close your shop! They keep changing their software, which is getting a bit too complicated for me. But it includes things like inventory control, following each item for payment, delivery dates, and yearend summaries, among other things. I struggle there when they make "improvements," but (knockwood) their fee policy has not changed in about 4 years since I've been there. I might try to sell my phonos there, OR, I'm going to get subscriptions to phono mags to sell them...the "old fashioned" way. **Any suggestions on phono mags (which allow ads) would be greatly appreciated. 2 years ago, on craigslist I almost sold a grand piano, not an easy sell. My Mom talked me out of it, although I had an interested buyer who was trying to figure out how to move it :) As the Schnoze (Durante) would say about ebay: What a revoltin' development this is!
