Is it possible your banner machine is the early Standard B that had the banner?

You are correct.  
 
If the crank is threaded it is a B.  All A's have the slotted cranks.  That is 
how you tell an A from a B.
 
The ICS machines all have the speed control above the bedplate.  If you have an 
ICS B or C it will have the speed control above the bedplate with the threaded 
crank.
