Steve, That is what I have been thinking all along that using a H stylus would cause ware on the 2 minute wax records and I surely do not what to do that. I have spent many years collecting and hand picking my 2 mintue wax cylinders and I would hate to cause any damage to any one of them. Now I notice that the sapphire stylus on the lyric reproducer looks to me smaller than the Edison C sapphire. So maybe I can get away with playing 4 minute with it but will not be sure unitl I get the 2/4 mintue attachment. What's your input on that Steve? Kenneth

Hello Kenneth, If you play a blue amberol four minute record with a model C two minute you will get sound and you can tell what the song is which surprised me as I did not think you would get sound. You never want to play a four minute with a two minute stylus. With celluloid records the light weight and sapphire will not cause enough additional wear for you to ever notice. Sapphire is softer than diamond and I am certain that the H styli will cause more wear than the proper two minute but again not enough to be concerned with. There has been a debate about playing wax two minute records with a Model H for many years, one man said he has done this for over 20 years with no wear noted. It is a fact that playing two minute records with a Model H will cause more wear, the contact area of the H is .0035 for Edison. I would say occasional playing with of a wax record with a model H would not be bad, but it depends on how you want to treat your records. For example playing a brown wax with a model C will cause addition wear and remove more wax because of the shape of the ball stylus. Some people do not care. I welcome discussion.
